As reported last
week, I will be going on
holiday to Oz to watch the Ashes and celebrate my 6oth
from late November onwards. After 7 years of continuous webmastering FCEK John Dennison has kindly offered to step into
my shoes and keep the website going while I'm away. From next Wednesday (i.e. matches taking place on Wednesday 15th) onwards please ring him (0161-445-1522 or 078136-109870) or email him (Johndennisonco@aol.com) with results, comments, etc. I will be back in February by which time I expect the Opsimaths to have clinched the league title!! |

The Results Albert Park played a nip and tuck match against Albert but just managed to get their nip in last Electric Pigs lost out to a 2 FCEKs eager for success after their humiliation at the hands of the Opsimaths last Wednesday Ethel Rodin slugged out a nailbiter at the Stadium of Murk but just came off second best to the History Men Napier Girls kept their usual flying start to the season on track by beating Snoopy's Friends at Fortress Griffin |

The Paper Opsimaths set this week's paper. As ever on these occasions I find it impossible to be impartial. In the match I watched (Albert Park v Albert) the paper proved to be a pretty tough challenge with average, to below average, scoring. The most controversial point of the evening came unexpectedly in Round 6 (Question 4) when Mark persuaded us that 'Punt - Punter - Puny' was as good an answer to the quest for 3 consecutive dictionary words meaning a means of transport, a trick and meagre, as the official one given in the paper. How unlikely is it to find 2 trios of consecutive dictionary entries each with the same 3 meanings in the same order? Correspondents have mentioned the 'White City' (Round 8 Q2) and the 'Benny The Dip/Motivator/Galileo' (Round 5 Q7) questions favourably in their dispatches. In addition, at the Albert Club, the Pablo Picasso picture round question (Round 7 Q5) provoked a good reaction. At The Stadium of Murk Ethel Rodin achieved the best chuckle of the week by answering 'Nude ladies in the WI Calendar' to the QotW question shown below. I have to admit that this question might have been less misleading if I had used the word 'composition' rather than 'work of art'. Sorry about that. |

Question of the Week The vote (from the Albert team) this week goes to Round 8 Question 5: In which work of art will you find reference to W M Baker, Caroline Alice, G R Sinclair and Winifred Norbury? Click here to see the answers to this and the rest of the week's questions and answers. |
