The worst enemies of
the 'Highest Scoring Loser/Lowest Scoring Loser' type of cup
draw are the inconsiderate teams that go and lose with the same
scores. This happened last night with the Pigs and 2 FCEKs
both scoring 37 points. As the sole disinterested Withquiz
administrator (Gary being a Pig) I rule that the margin of
defeat should be the factor that determines which team goes
where. Consequently the Pigs having lost by a single point
stay in the Cup, whilst 2 FCEKs who lost by 5 points go to the
Plate. Hope this is acceptable. I'm off to Scotland
for a few days walking with John Dennison, Richard Seed and John
Jackson so I can expect some stick from John D!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Stockport/Withington inter-league quiz idea is gathering some head of steam. I received the following email from the Stockport league earlier in the week:
I recommend following the link to their website (quoted above). Ideas for inter-league activity are put forward in some detail. Their end-of-season AGM is on May 10th, so expect to see some further information on their site shortly thereafter. Based on your input so far the general feeling this side of the fence is favourable. Watch this space!! |

The Paper Opsimaths set the paper. Aggregate scores were middling but good signs in that there were a number of different nominations for QotW. The Pigs thought the Picture Round too one-track whilst the culture vultures from Ms Rodin loved it; Ethel and co. thought the 'First lady to...' pair were not much fun, whereas the Girls and FCEKs voted 'em top notch. As QM at the Griffin (and main architect of the paper) my most enjoyable moment was watching the Girls try to work out whether Canterbury was close to, and north of, Hastings. To be fair Martin did say "Are we thinking of the right Hastings?". Every Napier lad knows where the world capital for chevrons, ziggurats and sunbursts - and Art Deco - is, surely? I do hope the Men TCH got their own question right. Oh, and apologies for the Forrest Gump question. I goofed. The book was published in 1985 but the film won Oscars in 1994. |

Question of the Week Jeremy from newcomers, The Men TCH, voted this week for Round 3 Question 1: The American-born composer, John Cage wrote a piece of music entitled 4 minutes 33 seconds which consists of total silence. Why did he pick that number of seconds? Click here to see the answers to this and the rest of the week's questions and answers. |
